Gothic Quarter Hotels

The Gothic Quarter is the oldest part of Barcelona, and it is full of undeniable charm… If you like narrow alleys and corners full of history, you might want to consider staying here!

You’ll also be walking distance from La Rambla, the Born district, the fishermen Barceloneta neighborhood and even the shops and Gaudi apartment buildings in Passeig de Gràcia.

The downside is that sometimes the backstreets are pedestrian and sometimes taxis can’t really drop you in front of your hotel, then you’ll have to be ready to walk a  couple of blocks.

Do you want to know what are my top 5 hotel recommendations in the Gothic Quarter?

Check them out:

:1: Mercer Hotel Barcelona   :star:   :star:   :star:   :star:   :star:   The latest opening in the Old Town, and aiming to be super-exclusive (I went in to check out their patio, and they asked not to disturb the privacy of their guests!). It is located inside a restored medieval mansion, in an alley that tourists haven’t discovered yet (although it’s only a couple of blocks from the Cathedral).

:2: Hotel Neri   :star:   :star:   :star:   :star:   A Relais Chateaux in the medieval Barcelona! Romantic and private, I L-O-V-E their rooftop terrace (open to non-guests as well for drinks in the evening). One down-side: some taxi drivers will refuse to drop you at the door, as the alley where it’s located is quite narrow…

:3: Hotel Catalonia Catedral   :star:   :star:   :star:   :star:   :star:   Modern and convenient, it is located in a side street around the corner from the Cathedral.

:4: Hotel Colon   :star:   :star:   :star:   Hotel with an old-fashioned Parisian touch, for those who like old-school venues. It’s located right in front of the Cathedral. BTW, the name actually means “Columbus Hotel” (lol).

:5: H10 Racó del Pi   :star:   :star:   :star:   Located halfway between the Cathedral and La Rambla, in the edge of the Gothic Quarter. Modern and comfortable, you’ll enjoy walking around the animated streets and plazas around it.

:?: What about you? Would you stay in the old quarters or do you prefer more modern areas? Leave a comment below!
