The Dalí Triangle
2012
Dalí’s privacy and art in all of its splendor!
There are three sites in Catalonia that were intimately related to Salvador Dalí’s life and works. The most famous is the Theater-Museum in Figueres, but there are two more museums in the area that will introduce you to the private life of the genious of Surrealism: this private home in Cadaqués, and the mansion he offered to his wife Gala in Púbol. Let us unveil their secrets for you!
Dalí’s Theater-Museum, in Figueres
Two hours will feel like one minute inside this great place that looks more like a fun-fair than a museum! Dalí himself designed it, and made of it what’s said to be the largest “surrealist work” in the world. We’ll enjoy some of his masterpieces such as the famous Basket of Bread, but also other less famous yet outstanding paintings: I assure you that your opinion on Dalí will totally change after this visit, as we discover the genius behind the fool!
Availability: Mon-Sun (June to September), Tue-Sun (October to May)
Distance from Barcelona: 2h ride.
Accessibility: Short flights of steps in the museum.
House-Museum in Portlligat (Cadaqués)
Visit the surrealistic home of Dalí and Gala, made out of restoring and putting together old fisherman shacks. From his bed here, Dalí was the first person in Spain to see the sunrise every morning.
ATTENTION: Visits are very restricted and reservation is compulsory. Visitors must arrive 30 minutes before their reservation time, otherwise their tickets will be sold to other visitors.
Availability: From 7 January to 11 February, closed all days. Mondays between 15 June and 15 September are also closed.
Distance from Barcelona: 2h45min ride.
Accessibility: Short flights of steps inside the house.
Castle-Museum in Púbol
Visit the Castle-Museum in Púbol, offered by Dalí to his wife and muse Gala. This excursion will take you in a trip into the couple’s privacy, their love, their extravaganzas, their life, and their deaths.
Availability: Closed on Mondays, and from 1 January to 14 March.
Distance from Barcelona: 2h45min ride.
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible.
Dalí Museum (Figueres) + Castle-Museum (Púbol)

Discovering the privacy of the mansion that Dalí offered to Gala and getting to understand their relationship better, will help you understanding better the works displayed in the Theater-Museum: the fears and passions behind them.
Girona + One Dalí site
Visit your chosen Dalí site first (either Figueres OR Púbol), then head to Girona to explore its charming Old Town with an impressive Cathedral and an interesting Jewish Quarter from the Middle Ages. Lunch in Girona before coming back to Barcelona.
Castle-Museum/Púbol + Tossa de Mar (Costa Brava)
Visit the intimate Castle-Museum, then take a scenic countryside road that will take you to Tossa de Mar in Costa Brava for a nice lunch by the Mediterranean Sea. Tossa is a charming fortified village with nice beaches and cobbled-stone streets in the older part of the village.
House-Museum / Portlligat + Figueres OR Púbol
A Dalí day visiting your two favorite sites.
Lunch will be organized depending on your chosen destinations and the reservation times we are given for Portlligat. Eventually, lunch might consist of a light bite instead of a nice seat-down restaurant meal.
House-Museum / Portlligat + Cadaqués
Visit the home of Dalí and Gala, then stay in the cute seaside village of Cadaqués to enjoy its artsy ambiance and stroll around its whitewashed streets where you’ll feel like you’re in Greece. After a nice lunch, head back to Barcelona.
Figueres OR Púbol + High Costa Brava
Visit your favorite Dalí site to chose between the artworks of the Theater-Museum in Figueres or the privacy of the Castle-Museum, then head to the higher Costa Brava for a seaside lunch off-the-beaten-track.
The Dalí Triangle
A Dalí-packed day visiting the three Dalí sites:
House-Museum in Portlligat
Theater-Museum in Figueres
Castle-Museum in Púbol
This itinerary is not for everyone but only for big Dalí fans.
Expect an early morning departure from Barcelona followed by a long drive to Portlligat (sleeping a bit more in the car will be a good idea, as you’ll need a lot of energy to keep going for a long day).
After visiting Portlligat, head immediately to Figueres (no stop in Cadaqués, sorry!) to visit the Theater-Museum. There will be time for a light bite after the museum (but no long seat-down restaurant meal), before heading to Púbol in the afternoon to visit the Castle-Museum.
