Dinning by the sea: top Barcelona beach restaurants
This time of the year, many clients ask me to recommend them good Barcelona beach restaurants. After all, they are a perfect choice for a summer meal. However, there are so many, and so many of them are no more than tourist traps, that visitors need some orientation to choose where to go.
This is why, when today Sally M. wrote me to reconfirm her Gaudi tour and asked me about Barcelona beach restaurants to go with her husband, I thought that it was a great post idea. And no sooner said than done! Good appetite!
These are our favorite Barcelona beach restaurants:
Agua. Located in the Olympic Village, I love dining at their outdoor terrace, with the quiet sound of the ways in my ears, to view of the palm trees and the moon, and a candle on my table to make the evening even more romantic. And after dinner, if I feel like dancing, some of my favorite nightclubs are just next door. This is I chose Agua from all the Barcelona beach restaurants for my Afar Wonderlist.
Salt. Looking for an informal but classy lunch? Our Barcelona beats restaurants least has also a great choice for you! This is one of the restaurants of the W hotel (a top Barcelona beach hotel, by the way), and I always choose a table outdoors when it’s sunny. Nothing beats the astounding views over the water, while I savor a gourmet burger with my friends. And I can’t resist their sundae for dessert either!
La Guingueta de la Barceloneta. Hungry at the beach? A “chiringuito” is an informal beach bar serving comfort food and drinks, and there are a few located along the Barcelona beaches. And most of them, though, the food isn’t great… But this is not the case of this one, run Carles Abellán (a local Michelin-starred chef) and his partner. Even their gelato is gourmet: they sell Rocambolesc, the brand by the Roca brothers, owners of the famous Celler de Can Roca restaurant in Girona.
Xiringuito Escribà. Larger and with more facilities than the average “xiringuito”, in this one you will be able to enjoy a more elaborated meal. paella is their specialty: they have upto 6 different dry dishes! And their tapas are also great (try their ham “airbags”), but leave some room for dessert: this venue is run by Christian Escribà, one of the best cake makers in town.
Cal Pinxo Platja. This restaurant is run by the 5th generation of the same family devoted for decades to seafood cooking in the Barceloneta. Well known by the locals, it features an outdoor terrace overlooking the beach. Head here for great lobster, prawns, shrimp or any kind of shellfish.
AND BONUS! Here is where else locals go:
Boo Beach Club. Are there any Barcelona beach restaurants for fine dinning? Yes! Boo Beach Club, located in one of the Barcelona beach breakwaters, is run by Curro Palomares, an award-winning chef, who has designed a menu focusing in the Catalan and Mediterranean tradition. Enjoy the views over the best Barcelona beaches and don’t miss the 2 fishing boats inside, where cooks display a mouthwatering grill showcooking. Definitely, one of our favorite Barcelona beach clubs!
