Today’s post can also be helpful if you are staying in one of the Barri Gotic Hotels and need places to eat nearby.
These are our favorite restaurants in Barri Gotic:
Cafe de l’Academia. This quaint restaurant is placed in the beautiful Sant Just Square, where in the summer time you can enjoy lunch or dinner in their sunny outdoor terrace. Probably one of the best food options in the area: nice cuisine with a complete menu of fresh dishes. The inside is also full of charm, as it used to be a gathering point for the local intellectuals in the old times. Closed in the weekends. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Allium. One of the few slow food restaurants in Barri Gotic. All their food is locally outsourced, and they specialize in Catalan cooking and tapas, made with love and knowhow (the owner was trained at some Michelin star restaurants before she decided she preferred catering “real people” rather than the elite. If you are gluten-free, they are always happy to adapt to your needs.
Bodega La Palma. Bodega is the Spanish word for cellar, and La Palma is an authentic traditional cellar with more than 75 years of history. Entering here is like traveling back to the past. Their specialty are traditional tapas (we love their red peppers stuffed with mushrooms!), and they also have a Daily Specials set menu for lunch.
La Vinateria del Call. If you have been exploring the Gotic Quarter in the afternoon and need a place for dinner, don’t miss this wine bar hidden in the alleys of the Jewish Section. A gourmet tavern serving over 160 different Spanish wines and delicious high-quality tapas. A great place to enjoy some exquisite cheese and wine pairing.
Raso Terra. Looking for some healthy food to counterbalance the excess of tapas? This vegetarian restaurant is mostly visited by locals who enjoy their variety of nicely prepared soups, main courses and tapas. Their egg cassoulettes are a must! Their creations are so delicious and creative you’ll forget it was all vegetarian! Definitely one of our favorite Barri Gotic restaurants.
But wait! Did you know there is a restaurant where Picasso used to hang out? Share this post to discover where:
Quatre Gats. Opened in 1897 in the street level of a modernist building by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, this place used to be a bohemian meeting point for the artists of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s such as Picasso, Santiago Russiñol or Ramon Casas. They have preserved the original decoration that will remind you of Paris. At night, they have live piano music.
