Hotel Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona

Top Reasons To Chose The Barcelona Mandarin Oriental Hotel

SHOULD YOU STAY AT THE BARCELONA MANDARIN?

Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona is one of the best places to stay and the Mandarin Oriental hotel is one of the most popular. Located right in the middle of everything, it was open only a few years ago in the building of a former bank. And while the outside architecture might not be too enticing, the services offered totally make up for that.

Furthermore, from the service point of view, only the Hotel Arts Barcelona can rival with it, but the location of the Mandarin is way more central.

This is what we like about the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Barcelona:

1

Location

Its privileged location in one of the best avenues of Barcelona, Passeig de Gràcia, makes this hotel a really good choice. It is close to the Gaudí houses and other modernist buildings, great food options and awesome shops.

Plus it’s just five minutes walk from Plaça Catalunya and the Old town. Plus amongst all the hotels in Passeig de Gracia, the Barcelona Mandarin Oriental is definitely one of our favorite, together with the Alma Barcelona.

2

High End Restaurants

The Barcelona Mandarin features 3 wonderful restaurants. Moments is a two Michelin star restaurant managed by Carme Ruscalleda, a lady chef that already accumulates 7 Michelin stars in her restaurants in Spain and Tokio. Her cuisine is based in the Catalan culture, combining fresh food with her natural creativity.

At the restaurant Bistreau you’ll taste the cuisine of Ángel León’s, known as the Chef of the Sea, who’s restaurant is of course offering fresh fish and seafood. Finally, La Mesa, managed by Ángel León as well, offers 15-courses tasting menus inspired in the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea. Ángel León has been awarded with two Michelin stars as well.

3

Contemporary design

The interiors of this awesome Barcelona luxury hotel have been designed by Patricia Urquiola, who combined a Catalan feel and soul with the Asian roots of the hotel brand: light, gold, luxury and modernity together.

4

Spa

If there’s one place in the center of Barcelona where to relax and wind down, this is the Spa at Mandarin Hotel. We love their two private suites for couples with Jacuzzi to enjoy with your sweet heart massages created by traditional Chinese medicine and aromatherapy experts, and the private suite with personal trainer and personal nutritionist services. This spa also offers a gym and a 12 meters pool for training.

These other hotels also have great spas.

5

Rooftop Terrace

Enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the city and its landmarks: Sagrada Família, the W hotel, the Montjuic Hill, the belltowers of the Cathedral… Their exquisite drinks and cocktails can be paired to any of their dishes of Peruvian and Asian touches. Our choice: the white fish ceviche with lime and coriander.

AND BONUS! Is everything just perfect? These are the weak points of the hotel:

6

The Cons

When they first opened the Barcelona Mandarin Oriental, its main weakness was the size of the rooms, that were not up to what you find in other hotels of the chain. But good news: in 2014 they made some renovation works and increased their average size, so that’s not a problem anymore.

Similarly, during the first years complains about the staff were not uncommon, however we must say that once they got momentum, things have totally improved. So we must say that at the Barcelona Mandarin they do listen to people complains and are ready to take measures. That’s why it’s hard to find cons at the moment – Which is great!
