The Barcelona Restaurants With Live Music

In Barcelona restaurants with live music are rare. Most locals eat first, then head to a concert hall or jazz club for the music. However, there are some places in town where you can enjoy a great dinner and some live jazz, or a piano player or even a whole concert – you just need to know where to go.
A simple Google search won’t help much: many places are just burger joints or have permanently closed, like our very missed Café Mandacarú. You can also head to a flamenco place, but there the food isn’t usually great as people go there for the show rather than their gastronomical offer.
These are our favorite live music restaurants in Barcelona:

Set Portes
This restaurant located in a arcaded building between the Born and the Barcelona quarters offers piano playing every evening after 9PM. Choose your favorite song from their piano songs menu and ask the pianist, Manel Barea, to play it. His repertory is wide and aside from personal requests, he also chooses the pieces depending on each night’s feel, so each dinner feels different and special.
Also, check the restaurant agenda in their website to learn what other activities are going on. Right now they are organizing monthly Lyric Dinners consisting on a tasting set menu and a soprano and piano concert following the meal.
A perfect choice for those who love traditional settings: this restaurant has been open for over 180 and it still keeps its classical flare and old recipes (don’t miss their paella, said to be one of the best in town) and black and white checkered floors. It’s also fun to check out the little signs mentioning what celebrity has seated in the table you are eating.

Quillo Bar
Love flamenco? You aren’t afraid of getting lost in old narrow alleys if that ensures you a local experience? Are you a night owl? Quillo Bar is a tapas bar lost in the maze of backstreets of the Born district. While they started out serving tapas, they have recently extended their menu to include more elaborated meals from Spanish and international cuisine.
There’s a Rumba and Flamenco live show every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11PM until closing time.

Quatre Gats
It of course became quickly the meeting point of the Modernist artists and literates, including a very young Picasso from whom you can still see nowadays a couple of small paintings hanging in the walls.
The original restaurant closed for a few decades, but it reopened again preserving its antique essence and original decoration. Since then, the piano has always been playing on Saturdays and depending on the week they also offer other styles such as soul, jazz, bossanova or free style. Make sure to call them before to know if there’s live music that day, it’s the only way to know it!

Casino Barcelona
Open all year around, this haven of game tables, slots and poker features 5 theme restaurants where you can enjoy an excellent seasonal cuisine. But gambling and eating isn’t the only thing you can do there: Check their website to discover their extensive musical program of live music, specially jazz and vocals.
It’s located next to the Port Olímpic Marina and the beaches, so you can go on a lovely walk by the water after dinner if you are not a gambler, or enjoy a drink in one of the nearby beach clubs.

Café Vienés (Hotel Casa Fuster)
The Casa Fuster building was built by the architect Lluís Domènech i Muntaner: a gorgeous modernist building with delicate floral relieves and pink marble columns. The street level became a meeting point of the high society, that was recovered when the building became a hotel. Your appointment at Café Vienés is every Thursday, from 9 pm to 23 pm.
The best jazz artists in the world have played at Café Vienés: Woddy Allen (who used it as a set for his Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie), Eddy Davis or the Barcelona Swing Serenaders are just some of them. Choose between entrance+drink or a more exclusive entrance + dinner, which can be a full 3-course meal or a tapas tasting, both paired to a glass of the exclusive Moët Chandon champagne. Menus can be adapted to gluten-free diets, too.
