La Font del Gat, one of the Barcelona restaurants with garden

Top Restaurants With Garden In Barcelona

OUR FAVORITE BARCELONA GARDEN RESTAURANTS

Now that the spring is around the corner, eating outdoors is always great. There are lots of restaurants with outdoor terrace in Barcelona, but often they are right in the middle of the street and there’s a lot of noise and smoke.

Instead, enjoying a meal surrounded by plants and nature is so pleasurable, and it gives you that special feeling of privacy. But are there any restaurants in Barcelona with garden? It’s difficult to imagine, in the middle of such a busy city.

But don’t be mistaken by the appearances: the inside of the buildings hide unexpected little oasis where locals love to retire for a quiet meal and to take a break of their rushed every day lives. Would you like to discover the best outdoor dinning in Barcelona? Then don’t miss today’s post!

These are the best garden restaurants in Barcelona:

1

Adobo

In the exclusive and quaint neighborhood of Tres Torres you’ll find this garden restaurant with lavish greenery of ivy, buganvilleas, bushes and trees, run by chef Enrique Valentí. In Adobo you’ll find a gastronomic offer that revolves around Spanish tapas and traditional cooking seen from a contemporary point of view.

It’s a short subway ride from Plaça Catalunya with the FFCC train, and from there you’ll be just a relaxing 20 minutes walk from the Dragon Gate of the Güell Pavilions by Gaudi (since it’s a longish walk, consider stopping for a coffee at the welcoming Café Dole on the way).

La Font del Gat

In the occasion of the 1929 World Fair, the woods and vegetable patches of the Hill of Montjuic were refurbished and transformed into elegant gardens. The area surrounding a popular water spring called the Font del Gat where locals used to picnic, was remodeled by the french garden designer Jean Claude Forestier and his local assistant Nicolau Rubió i Tudurí who created there the Jardins Laribal.

In the surroundings of the water spring (famous for a local children song about a soldier trying to flirt with a smart girl that carries a basket) the architect Domènech i Muntaner built a pavilion that is now a restaurant with a sunny garden where you can eat under the orange and chestnut trees while admiring the city views.

It’s only open for lunch: daily menu Tue-Fri and à la carte in the weekends. The food is informal with a touch of sophistication. It’s too bad they close at 6PM so they aren’t an option for early dinner before the Magic Fountain Show. But they are a great option for lunch after visiting the Miró Foundation.

3

Antic Teatre

If you are happy to sacrifice a gourmet meal for just a sandwich, as long as you can get in contact with the “real” Barcelona, this is the place for you: Antic Teatre is a cultural organization created to promote innovation in scenic arts, lost in the alleys behind the Palau de la Música, in the less trendy part of the hipster Born district.

To support their activities they run a bar and café open every day (weekends after 5pm only) where many artists meet to plan their projects and students come to study and meet friends. Order at the counter and take your drinks and sandwiches to their garden, one of the only green spaces in Romantic style that has been preserved in the city, and seat under the shade of its huge fig tree.

El Jardí de l’Abadessa

If you are planning to visit the gorgeous Monastery of Pedralbes, make sure to book a table for lunch in this nearby restaurant frequented by the neighbors of this up-skilled district and the people working in the many embassies and the exclusive business schools located in the area. You’ll find here a refreshing and clean grass garden with tables in the sunshine or under the pergolas.

They have a very attractive daily menu during week days, but you can also order à la carte from a menu that combines traditional Catalan and Spanish recipes with a touch of Asian fusion and lots of healthy options. Carles Ases, the chef, moto is “Cooking is the key to reach very deep inside people, and that’s where its power lies”: be ready for an exciting choice of flavors that will inspire your mind and palate.

5

Roig Robí

This elegant restaurant in the limit between Eixample and Gràcia has a backyard garden with terracotta pavement and walls covered with greenery: ivy and grape ivy, fan palm trees and other shade-loving plants that create a very intimate atmosphere. Here you’ll be able to taste their award-winning traditional local cuisine, served in delicate presentations.

A perfect place for a romantic dinner. Your privacy will be protected from nosy upstairs neighbors with a reed canopy that filters the moonlight. If you are looking for a romantic restaurant with garden or for a high end restaurant with a garden, this is definitely the very best option you’ll find in Barcelona.

AND BONUS! Here is an indoor restaurant that is like eating inside a spectacular Asian garden:

6

Indochine by Ly Leap

Our choice for the Eixample district isn’t the average garden. The whole restaurant has been designed as an indoor Asian garden, where you can eat surrounded by orchids, bamboo, palm trees, budha sculptures and ponds with golden fish on it that will beg you to feed them some rice.

Here you can’t eat à la carte: they have several set tasting menus to choose from (make sure to let them know beforehand if you have any vegetarian in your party, so they can prepare something special in advance).
