One of the things kids love when traveling is taking unusual means of transportation. And Barcelona has no shortage of them!
Today our guest blogger Amber Collins, on behalf of DC Kensington, shares with us the best ones, so you can plan some fan family rides!
BARCELONA FUN TRANSPORTATION FOR KIDS
Major cities around the world count on efficient and large transportation networks so their inhabitants can get around easily. As such, Barcelona’s network is one of the most efficient and interesting around the world. You can find a plethora of trams, trains, buses, taxis, public bicycles and even boats to get around. For most of us adults however, this transportation network is a means to an end, something we use to get around due to its practical value and not because of its beauty or aesthetic possibilities.
Children are very much unlike us, still capable of seeing the world through innocent and curious eyes, so you could have a lot of fun with them if you explore the many types of transportation Barcelona has to offer. It is one of the most gorgeous cities around the world and even just passing through its transport can be a bit of a tour by itself. The lovely fragrance of the Mediterranean Sea carries over, sunlight warming the mix of modern and old architecture and the lively beat of the main city of Catalonia.
The following are a great way to start your exploration:
One of the first places you would want to visit is the Port Vell Aerial Tramway, also known as Telefèric del Port or Aeri del Port. It allows you to cross Port Vell with a stunning view of Barcelona’s old harbour district. It connects the Montjuïc hill with Barceloneta as well as allowing you and your kids to view the rest of Barcelona’s splendor. You can also behold the Plaça del Portal de la Pau with its Columbus Monument and many other places, not to mention the excitement of traveling by cable car.
Montjuic Cable Car
Another place you can enjoy a trip throughout the city is the Tramvia Blau or the so-called Blue Tramway. This is an older-style tramway that offers a unique and unforgettable experience your kids will not soon forget if you handle it well. Thanks to the Blue Line you will have a chance to explore the oldest amusement park in Barcelona: the Tibidabo Amusement Park, which still has some of its original rides from the dawn of the 20th century. The view of Barcelona from the top is awe-inspiring and certain to stay with you for a long time. You can also reach the Cosmocaixa Science Museum via the Blue Tram as well, which offers special attractions and exhibitions devoted to small children and a number of scientific disciplines.
You can also enjoy a funicular railway ride in the city via the Funicular de Montjuïc, which has most of its line inside a tunnel, connecting the Barcelona Metro with the Montjuïc hill. It also connects with the Montjuïc Cable Car, allowing you to get close to the Miró Museum of art, named after the Catalan painter Joan Miró. You will find a number of facilities nearby that add to the interesting aspects of the route.
