Sagrada Familia Tapas Tour

BEST GAUDI TAPAS AND WINE TOUR

Food and Architecture in one tour

Do you want to visit the Sagrada Familia church but also have some tapas? Do you like mixing up sightseeing with some great food? Fancy some tapas and some Gaudi sites?

There’s so much about the Sagrada Familia church, and so much that can be missed if you go on your own without anyone to explain. And same with tapas: ordering on your own is often tricky when you don’t know what you are going to like or not. And if you are as a control freak or a perfectionist as I am, how much time does it take to have everything perfectly planned and fail-proof? Really a lot!

We designed this tour for a client that wanted to surprise her friends once, and we had so much fun with it she suggested we should add it to our tour portfolio and call it “Saints & Sins”, because of the church and the gluttony sin. And while we have change the tour name to something easier to recognize since then, this is still a favorite! A skip-the-line private tour of the Sagrada Familia church, followed by a short tapas tour.

TOUR FAQ

THIS TOUR RUNS: Every day.

WEAKEST DAYS:
– Monday and Sunday: some tapas bars are closed.
– August: many bars are closed for holidays. The tour can still be run, but the food options won’t be as exciting…

TOUR LENGHT: 4 hours.

RECOMMENDED STARTING TIME:
– LUNCHTIME TOURS: Noon.
– EVENING TOURS:
March thru October: 5:30 PM
November thru February: 4:30 PM (as Sagrada Familia closes at 6PM in the winter).

WHERE DO WE MEET? Your accommodation in Barcelona, or in Sagrada Familia.

WHERE DO WE END? In the Born district near the Picasso Museum.

HOW DO WE MOVE AROUND? This tour requires a taxi ride between Sagrada Familia and the Old Town. Once there, we continue on foot.

ARE ANY TASTINGS INCLUDED? No: This is not a cookie cutter tour. We want to provide the most unique tour for you – not a template that anyone can copy. Some people are adventurous eaters, while some other would rather stay in their safe comfort area; some love expensive wines, while other prefer beer. This tour should be a treat for you, so it doesn’t make sense that we make you eat a set tapas menu for a certain amount per person. It’s way more fun if you can chose every time what you want to eat and drink.

SHOULD I SKIP OTHER MEALS THAT DAY? If you are having a lunch-time tour, get a light breakfast (or skip it if you are used to skipping breakfast) and don’t plan a big dinner for the evening. If you are having a dinner-time tour, have a light lunch (no need to skip it) and don’t eat anything else until the tour starts. You won’t need dinner reservations that night

HOW MUCH WALKING IS INVOLVED? This varies depending on the bars your guide selects for you. In general, not much. The distance between bars is short: one or two blocks. The longest walk between too bars could be around 600m (around 2000ft) – but that’s be only once in the entire tour.

IS THERE A SIZE LIMIT FOR MY GROUP? This is a 100% private tour, meaning you won’t be added to a group of strangers. This said, if your party is 6 or more it’d be difficult to find enough room at the bars for all of you at the same time. This is why we advise to book 2 guides (or as many as it is necessary depending on the size of your group). In such cases you might not be visiting the same bars at the same time (or not visit the same bars at all).

CAN WE CLIMB THE STAIRS AT SAGRADA FAMILIA? Only upon request. Click here to learn more about how it works, what’s allowed and what’s not.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE? The dress code at the Sagrada Familia Church isn’t usually too strict, but they have occasionally banned access to people wearing short shorts (closer to their butts than to their knees), deep plunging necklines or open backs.

CAN THIS TAPAS TOUR CATER SPECIAL DIETS?

Vegetarian (ovo-lacto) are welcome. It’s not difficult to improvise some veggie tapas in Barcelona, but it’s best you let us know in advance.

Vegan are harder to cater. We definitely need to know in advance to plan accordingly.

Gluten-free can be accommodated if you can tolerate crossed-contamination and traces.

Celiac is VERY hard to accommodate as in most restaurants they aren’t trained to keep your food safe. We might have to limit the tapas stops to one single bar in the area we know to be safe.

Kosher food is hard to find in Barcelona: I’m afraid we can’t provide a tapas & wine tour that thoroughly respects kosher rules. We can, though, organize a no-pork no-seafood tapas tour if that’s OK with you. And we know a place were we can get Kosher wine from Spain, too.

Halal food is easier to find, but unfortunately it’s mostly Middle-Eastern cuisine. I’m afraid we can’t provide either a strictly halal tapas tour. We can, though, organize a no-pork no-seafood tapas tour if that’s OK with you.

Other food allergies and diets, please check with us before booking so we can assess your options and risks.

Guide and guest on our Gaudi Tapas Tour
“Javier our guide and his insight on Gaudi and our Sagrada Familia tour was just magical. then he took us on a tapas tasting in an area where locals go so we felt like we were not tourists. We experienced foods we would not otherwise have experienced on our own.”

“5 of us had this tour and it was outstanding. Marta tailored our tour to exactly what we asked for… some history and good food. She shared her favorite tapas bars and the best Sangria in Barcelona (She knows the “secret” ingredient!). Without a doubt the highlight of our two days there.”

TAILOR THIS BARCELONA GAUDI TAPAS TOUR TO YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS

This tour works great for someone looking for a fun afternoon that mixes up some sightseeing with some great food.

HINT: Add one or two extra hours to see more sites or eat in more bars.

If you are traveling with kids, this tour is kid friendly. Yes, we can find tapas that even picky eaters will enjoy. And if ending at 9.30PM sounds too late, you can also book this tour as a lunchtime tour.

If you have walking issues or use a wheelchair, the Sagrada Familia church is accessible EXCEPT FOR THE TOWERS (which are anyway optional), and most tapas bars are (although they might be narrow and maybe have one step at the entrance: we’ll do our best to serve you). The walk between bars varies from next door to a bit more than 5 minutes.

If you are expecting to find bars full of atmosphere, this probably isn’t the right choice for you because you’ll get there early and locals won’t have arrived yet. We recommend you go for a full Tapas Tour (and maybe add extra hours for Sagrada Familia if it’s still open, or visit it in some other tour), because it ends much later.

If you are more than one day in town, double the fun by booking one Gaudi Tour and one Tapas Tour instead. Or combine it with our Tour of the Old Town. Or consider going out of town one day.
