Best hotels in Barcelona near Las Ramblas
LOOKING FOR HOTELS NEAR LA RAMBLA, BARCELONA?
It’s decided: you want to stay near La Rambla, but don’t want to be right on it, because it may be too busy, or too noisy, or too touristy (NOTE: Check out this other post if you are looking for hotels ON la Rambla). But Google only throws you big hotel websites with random lists of hotels that are supposed to be close to Las Ramblas… even if they are several miles away! Hey, that may be considered “nearby” in the USA where you move around by car. But in Europe, that’s considered far if you have to walk and avoid public transportation or wasting your budget on taxi rides.
And here is where we come! We are locals and know what “close” means by the local standards. We have selected the best hotels near Las Ramblas, and sorted them out by number of starts, area and distance. But first of all, let’s review what areas are around La Rambla, so you can decide which is the best choice for you. La Rambla (also known as Las Ramblas or Les Rambles) is a boulevard that crosses the Old Town of Barcelona from the city center to the port.
On the East side of La Rambla expands the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter), the most historical area of the Old Town. It’s quite safe, silent at night, but with some busy shopping and tourist street during day time. Also, some hotels are located in narrow alleys where taxi drivers refuse to take you – if that’s the case we’ll let you know. Further away there’s the Born district, but that’s more than 10 minutes walk from La Rambla, so it doesn’t fall in our “close by” standards (but if you are are curious, here is our selection for hotels in El Born), except for a couple of options close to Via Laietana.
On the other side of Las Ramblas there's the Raval District, an area that gives me mixed feelings because while some areas have a great young vibe, some other are the kind you'd want to avoid on a vacation (and your daily life too, probably). I only recommend it to seasoned travelers that aren't easily scared. You can read my post about safety in El Raval if you are intrigued. Further away are the Paral·lel, Poblesec and Montjuic districts, but again that's too far to be considered "near La Rambla".
La Rambla ends in Plaça Catalunya, which is considered the real City Center of Barcelona. Here starts the Eixample District, where the best Gaudi sites are located. The fanciest street, Passeig de Gracia, starts in Plaça Catalunya and continues uphill. And while Passeig de Gracia hotels are considered very central, only the ones on the lower part of it can be classed as “hotels in Barcelona close to Las Ramblas”. So for the purpose of this post, we’ll focus on the options below Diputació, and between Muntaner and Pau Claris streets.
As for the waterfront where La Rambla starts, please take into account that Barcelona has over 15km / 9.5 miles of coast if we count beaches, marinas and industrial port. La Barceloneta and the Olympic Village are more than 10 minutes walk from La Rambla, so we won’t be considering the Barcelona beach hotels as options. We’ll focus on those at the beginning of Avinguda Paral·lel and along the Moll de la Fusta pier.
5-star Barcelona hotels near Las Ramblas
NOTE: You’ll notice that I’ve deliberately omitted two 5-star hotels that while technically their official address is on a side street off Las Ramblas, I do consider them hotels on la Rambla. The first one is Le Meridien, which is located in a corner with La Rambla even if its access is made via Pintor Fortuny street. The other is the Sonder DO Plaça Reial, because even if technically it only faces the plaza, the plaza itself feels like an appedix of La Rambla and it suffers from the same crowds and noise.

Kimpton Vividora *****
A design boutique hotel for young adults with class. As you enter, rather than a reception you are welcomed by the cocktail bar in the lobby (the reception is upstairs). Modern feel, great also for small company trips. There’s a gym, a rooftop bar with pool and 360º views over the city, a wellness center with massage room and free yoga lessons. Plus it’s a pet-friendly hotel. It’s accessible by taxi.

Hotel Neri *****
A Relais Chateaux in a narrow alley right between the Jewish Section and the Barcelona Cathedral. Romantic and quiet, it’s a perfect location for young couples (senior couples beware that taxi drivers won’t be able to take you to the door, and you’ll have to drag your luggage from the closest plaza two blocks away). They have a lovely rooftop bar with a small pool and lots of greenery, creating a true oasis in the middle of the city. The hotel features some rooms with terrace and outdoor bathtube, as well as apartments with terrace and private pool.

Hotel Ohla Barcelona *****
Located on the opposite edge of the Gothic Quarter, this 5 star hotel is easily accessible by taxi as it’s right on the main Via Laietana street. Art, design and food define this hotel, whose restaurant Caelis has been awarded a Michelin star (and it has a vegetarian tasting menu, too!).

Run by the prestigious Spanish chain Melia, this modern urban hotel is located in a very central location, although a bit too busy with traffic during daytime (not so much at night). They have an award-winning spa for massages and rituals (no water circuit, though) and a rooftop with pool and bar and spectacular views over the surrounding modernist buildings. The hotel also features a well equipped gym.

An elegant boutique hotel located in a medieval mansion with Roman foundations that can still be seen in some of the hotel facilities. Chosen by local celebrities for its discreet location away from the tourist crowds, most taxi drivers won’t accept to take you to the front door and you’ll have to walk a couple of blocks from wherever they drop you off. But other than that, luxury is what best defines a stay there.

While the alley where it’s located is too narrow for most taxis, it’s just a few feet from a broader street where taxis can drop you off.

A hotel with simple decoration, perfect when you aren’t planning to spend much time in your room and the decor doesn’t need to bring you pleasure, or for when you are traveling with kids (they have family rooms) and don’t want to worry about an expensive vase breaking… Super close to La Rambla, on a wide street where taxis can stop by the hotel door, but the sound-proofed rooms guarantee your nightly rest. Close enough to La Rambla to not feel as daring as other areas of El Raval, even if it still has a tiny darker vibe. But once you enter the hotel, everything is forgiven: this modernist hotel was built by the architect Domenech i Muntaner and is a hidden gem, specially the dinning room with the mermaid mosaics. Plus its restaurant is run by the Michelin starred chef Martin Berasategui. Trendy rooftop bar.

Their brunch at their corner restaurant has become a must in town.

Located in the busy shopping street of Pelai, this chain hotel has similar features to the Catalonia Plaza Catalunya (family rooms, suites with private pool, spa, parking… The main difference being that the Catalonia Ramblas has two additional restaurants.
