Pet Friendly Hotels In Barcelona

BARCELONA PET FRIENDLY HOTELS

You love your pet, and can’t imagine leaving your dog or cat at home, with friends or relatives or at a pet hotel while you go on vacation. Why should you? Your pets suffer from stress when you are away, and you want to spare them the pain. Traveling with pets doesn’t have to be a problem if you are coming to Barcelona! There are a few hotels that allow dogs and cats in their premises, sometimes for an extra fee, sometimes for free under certain conditions, for instance their size or that they are service pets (another very important reason to travel with your animals!).

Today we want to help you find the best possible accommodation for you and your pets in town. Just remember that in Barcelona dogs must be on a leash and you must collect their poop or you risk being fined. There are dog off-leash area and dog toilets available in most public parks (but even there you are required to pick up after them).

As for taking them to the beach, dogs are allowed to use it November through March any day except Easter week, and the week days of April, May and October. The rest of the year dogs are not allowed in the Barcelona beaches (ask your concierge to check if the Platja de Llevant is enabled as a beach for dogs when you come).

These are our favorite pet friendly hotels in Barcelona:

1

Hotel Barcelona Catedral

A nice 4-star hotel located very close to the Gothic Quarter and walking distance from Les Rambles, Plaça Catalunya and the beginning of Passeig de Gràcia. They take cats and dogs upto 15kg (33 pounds) for free, two animals per room maximum.

If your pet is quiet, you are welcome to leave it in the room by itself as long as you warn the concierge and leave a contact phone number. The only downside is that pets are not allowed in the common areas of the hotel. WARNING: Do not confuse it with the Catalonia Catedral hotel, which is nearby but they don’t take pets. Book a room here.

2

Hotel Colon

This classic 4-stars also located in front of the Cathedral has a name that sounds funny in English, but in Spanish everyone understands that it’s not about intestines but about Christopher Columbus (sounds fancier now, doesn’t it?). They accept one pet per room, either dog or cat with no weight limitation for free.

However, they are not allowed to stay alone in the room not to make use of the common areas of the hotel. Right behind, the same company owns the 3-star hotel Regencia Colon that offers more flexibility, as they take up to 2 pets per room and it’s OK to leave them in the room by themselves. Book your room here.

3

Petit Palace Hotels

This Spanish hotel chain specializes in boutique hotels in the city center of the most important cities in Spain, 3 of them in Barcelona (one next to La Rambla and two in the Eixample district). All of their hotels allow pets for free, both cats and dogs with no size limit, but only one pet per room. Animals are not allowed to stay alone in the rooms nor to use the common areas of the hotel. A bonus point is that they offer complimentary bikes: great if your dog loves running beside you when you go for a ride, and they have family and group rooms available – perfect for that extended family trip! Book your room here.

4

El Palauet Living Barcelona

One of the most luxurious and classy accommodation options in Barcelona, accepts pets under request. Stay in a spectacular apartment room with all the services of a 5-star hotel, private terrace, access to the rooftop spa and spectacular views over the city. Its location at the top of Passeig de Gràcia is also very convenient: within walking distance of the Gaudi apartment buildings Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, and lots of shopping and food options nearby.

They take cats and dogs up to 15kg (33 pounds), only one per room and they can’t access the common areas nor be left alone in the room. Book your room here.

5

Hotel Villa Emilia

A trendy hotel in the Eixample district, well connected with the city center by a short subway ride, and only 3 blocks away from the Parc de l’Escorxador where your dog will be happy to run and play. And if you love long walks, the gardens of the Hill of Montjuic are just a bit further. They accept 2 pets per room, either cats or dogs upto 15kg (33 pounds), but again, they can’t stay alone in the room nor use the common areas.

However, you can request a pet bed upon making your booking to guarantee their comfort. In their website they also assure they’ll be glad to cater for your pet special needs. In any case, we love their rooftop and their complimentary glass of wine and montadito tapa on arrival. Book your room here.

AND BONUS! Here is where to stay if you have upto 3 dogs with you?

6

Hotel Santa Marta

If you are traveling with upto 3 pets and luxury isn’t as much of a priority for you, you’ll be delighted to learn that this small hostel between the Born district and the Barceloneta fishermen quarter accepts upto 3 dogs for free during low season, or for a small fee the rest of the year. It’s only a 2-star hotel, so don’t expect to feel pampered there: just correct service with clean rooms, free WiFi  and private parking.

The location, though is pretty good to explore the Old Town and La Rambla, the Port Vell marina and the beaches. Plus you’ll be right next to the Ciutadella Park, where you’ll definitely love walking your dogs around. WARNING: Do no mix it up with the 4-star Hotel Santa Marta located in the Costa Brava (too far from Barcelona and they don’t take pets). Book your room here.
