Pilar introduces herself
I was born in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, a town near Barcelona in the Penedès wine region.
I studied Marketing and Public Relations in Barcelona, Vic (Spain) and Calgary (Canada), to finally come back to Sant Sadurní and work in an wine export company that would make me travel frequently around Europe for business.
Some years later, together with my boyfriend we decided to start our own communications and programming company, Inaudit.
About that time Marta asked me if I’d be interested in working for ForeverBarcelona. I have loved traveling since I was a teen, and helping people visiting our land sounded exciting, so I accepted and she trained me to take care of the clients emails, tour requests and bookings.
Working with ForeverBarcelona has open up a new world for me: I’ve realized I love dealing with people from everywhere and managing this team of wonderful guides is a pleasure. Plus thanks to Marta’s flexibility and support, I feel I’m growing both from a personal and a business point of view, and I can continue working in Inaudit and go on trips abroad at the same time.
Marta says about her:
I started ForeverBarcelona as a free-lance tour guide, and being a solopreneur is hard. After I started using my first virtual assistant Silvia’s services, my work load had considerably decreased. But running a company that was becoming more and more successful meant I was getting more and more emails requesting tours, and I was still going to sleep past midnight every day, as I’ve never liked making people wait days to get a reply.
But with over 50 different tour itineraries in my portfolio, and my will to customize the tours to our guests’ needs whenever it was possible, handing over answering emails to someone else sounded like an impossible quest. I had already tried 3 other people to no success, when my husband Oriol suggested I asked his friend from childhood Pilar.
I was a bit reluctant at the beginning, because I didn’t want to ruin their relationship if she wasn’t up to the job like those other three people hadn’t been. But we met, and decided that we would try for a few months and then openly express how we felt: if she didn’t like me as a boss or didn’t like the job, or if I wasn’t happy enough with her, we’d stop the collaboration – no regrets. Friendship is more important than a job.
And I can’t be happier I tried her! She quickly grasped how I wanted emails to be answered, and within months she was familiar with our most popular itineraries and their variations. She was also quick to learn and master the software we use, and was eager to learn from her mistakes rather than taking my corrections personally. In about a year and a half I was trusting her to reply our company emails without supervision, even if we are still closely collaborating almost daily.
Thanks to Pilar I can have again a life beyond work.
