August In Barcelona: Where To Eat
RESTAURANTS OPEN IN BARCELONA IN AUGUST
Barcelona in August is not as busy as you might expect. Most locals are gone, running away from the sticky Barcelona heat, and that’s why many restaurants choose to close for holidays. Same things happens in Madrid in August, by the way…
And that’s how eating well in August in Barcelona can become an ordeal: you had been checking your guidebooks and Tripadvisor reviews, selected those restaurants that sounded amazing and so appealing… Only to arrive to Barcelona and discover that they are closed.
Recommended restaurants open in August in Barcelona:
1
Barceloneta
When the heat strikes in August in Barcelona, the port becomes the most refreshing place to dine, and in this restaurant you’ll be able to do that overlooking the marina and the palm trees of the boulevard (make sure to ask for a balcony table). In this family-friendly restaurant they have the best Mediterranean seafood, as well as meat, rice and pasta options to keep everyone happy.
2
Ciudad Condal
Yes, even some tapas bars might be closed in Barcelona in August. But not this one! No reservations taken: make sure to show up for an early lunch or dinner or be ready to wait for almost an hour to get a table. Even locals make an exception to their late-dinner habits, and arrive early here!

Asador de Aranda

4
Botafumeiro
Who cares if this restaurant is so big that you soon realize it must be a money-making machine? Even locals agree that they have the freshest fish and seafood in town (and the lobster water tank welcoming you at the entrance is a good testimonial of it).
Plus Botafumeiro is not only open one of the best restaurants open in Barcelona in August, but they also open non-stop from noon to 1am. A great choice any time you are hungry! But if you want to mix up with locals, then you’ll have to wait until 10pm: the rest of the time it’s mostly other fish-loving tourists.
5
L’Olivé
Located in the city center, this restaurant specializes in traditional Catalan food, with some concessions to Spanish and Mediterranean cooking. Its many menu options ensures that everyone in the family will find something they like.
AND BONUS! This is our favorite!
6
Llamber
Fish and seafood tapas are their specialty, but you’ll also find some meat and veggies options as well.
