Seen Barcelona? Now It’s Time For The Basque Country!

I often get asked what else is there to be seen in Spain apart from Barcelona. Certainly, most people go to Madrid to visit its museums, and other love to go to Andalucia for its Muslim heritage and the beaches. But if you ask me, I am totally in love with the Basque Country!

Today we have my colleague Aitor  share with you some of the best things you can do in his area. Make sure to include a trip to the Basque Country after your stay in Barcelona!

THE HIDDEN JEWEL OF SPAIN

The Basque Country is one of the least known corners of Spain and it is very different in many aspects. But what are the the main reasons to make a stop here? Here we gave you the five reasons why you can love coming to the Basque Country:

5 things not to miss in the Basque Country

1

Food

From pintxos (top delicacies served in bars) to great restaurants lost in the middle of the mountains. Not to miss San Sebastian, the city with the highest number of Michelin Stars restaurants per inhabitant.

2

Drinks

In the Rioja Alavesa area you can find the oldest and most traditional wineries. Start in Laguardia and then go to Marques de Riscal to see the most modern architecture whilst you taste one of the best wines in the region.

3

Art

The Guggenheim Museum is a must, but all the surrounding area (Abandoibarra) is also worth visiting for its architecture, as part of the renewal of this Phoenix city of Bilbao.

4

Coast

In the Rioja Alavesa area you can find the oldest and most traditional wineries. Start in Laguardia and then go to Marques de Riscal to see the most modern architecture whilst you taste one of the best wines in the region.

5

Cities

Go to the amusement park in Igeldo to have one of the best views of San Sebastian. From there you can see the Pyrenees, too. And even France!.
