Unless you are staying in Barcelona for several nights, so a little time wasted traveling back and forth from the city center and top sites to your hotel isn’t a big deal, staying in the city center should be a priority for you.
Barcelona is a very walkeable city, and staying in the heart of Barcelona will allow you to easily hop to your room for a jacket, or to drop shopping bags, or have a quick nap, and it won’t feel like a pain to go back here the action is afterwards.
