Description

All the sweets from Spain you can think of… and more!

Do you have a sweet tooth? When you travel, do you always try to figure out where to find the best cakes, gelato or chocolate? Is desert your favorite part of a meal?

I am like this, and that’s why I decided to create a Sweet Barcelona tour: for the fun of sharing with my guests my favorite desert spots. I know how much time it takes to google posts about top cakes or gelato in a city, then add them to a custom googlemaps and figure out if any of those places that sound delicious are maybe close to my hotel or one of the sites I plan to visit. Lots of trouble, that I want to spare you in your Barcelona trip.

If you have a half day to spare, come with me and I’ll show you the top sweet spots in Barcelona selling modern and traditional Spanish candy and desserts. It’ll be loads of fun! Oh, and come with an empty stomach: you’ll want to try them!

  • Meet your guideBOQUERIA MARKET

Meet your guide and head to the most famous food market in Barcelona, that is also a heaven of sweets. Giant lolypops, piles of caramelized fruit and nuts, assorted chocolate with a myriad of toppings, turron (nougat) stalls… Yes, at the market they sell other stuff, too (fish, meats, veggies…), but in this tour we’ll focus on their sweetest products – unless you ask us to show you everything since we are there, of course!

  • Traditional DesertsRAMBLA & GOTHIC QUARTER AREA

Your tour will continue exploring some great Spanish cakes stores and dessert places in the Rambla area, most of them very traditional although there is also some space for innovation, too. Cakes, chocolate, dairy deserts, turron (Spanish Christmas nougat), gelato… but the highlight will definitely be enjoying some thick rich hot chocolate with churros in one of the most famous places of Barcelona for that.

Best Chocolate Cake in the World 2005, anyone? Or maybe Best Butter Croissant in Spain 2014?

A unique experience: get a private tour of a famous cake atelier where they don’t just produce quality traditional patisserie, but they also create cakes for special events from high end weddings and birthdays, to corporation happenings, to performances and shows. You’ve never imagine what you can do with cakes!

This tour takes place in the Eixample district a few blocks from Plaça Universitat, and lasts about 2 hours, that can be part of the 4-hour tour if we shorten the rest of the itinerary, or an extension if you book an extra hour.

IS THIS TOUR RIGHT FOR YOU?

This tour is perfect for people that love deserts, sweets and chocolate and want to treat themselves for 4 hours.

If you are traveling with kids, this tour is totally kid-friendly! But if you are afraid it’ll be too much sugar for them, you might want to check our food tour, instead (it includes some sweets but also other non-sugary treats).

If you are on a wheelchair, the area covered is wheelchair accessible. Some stores might have a step at the entrance, but with good will everything should work out.

If you have walking issues, please take into account that this tour is 100% walk as it takes place mostly in pedestrian areas. The walk between stores is 2 to 10 minutes, but it’s not always possible to seat. You might want to add a driver so we can customize an itinerary for your with minimal walking.

If you love chocolate more than any other sweet, check out our chocolate tour and our wine & chocolate tour instead.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Tour length: 4 hours, with possibility of adding extra hours on request upon booking.
  • Tastings are not included, but nothing is compulsory. You’ll be able to decide where you want to spend your money to try something.
  • Transportation from your hotel and back are is not included. Taxi rides range around €6 to €12.
  • The final stores and facilities visited might vary depending on their opening hours and vacations, as well as your favorite products. Our guides can often improvise the itinerary depending on what they consider you’ll enjoy the most.

 AT THE SHOPS

The shop owners and assistants are usually very proud of their business and are happy to welcome people into their shops even if you aren’t going to buy anything, so don’t be shy and enjoy the experience of enjoying the best chocolate in Barcelona! (And no: we don’t get commissions for taking you there, either)

WHY ARE TASTINGS NOT INCLUDED?

Some people are adventurous eaters, while some other would rather stay in their safe comfort area; some love expensive stuff, while other prefer cheap and simple. This tour should be a treat for you, so it doesn’t make sense that we enforce a closed budget to include a number of set tastings that you might or might not enjoy. It’s way more fun if you can chose every time what you want to taste. You can even NOT eat anything at all and later on go back to your favorite stops to buy or eat at your own pace.
