SUGGESTED CHOCOLATE & CAKE ACTIVITIES
PRIVATE CHOCOLATE TASTING
GET TO KNOW THE DARKEST SECRETS OF CHOCOLATE
Be taken to Marta's favorite chocolate store where you'll learn about the chocolate process and the difference between chocolate, praliné and truffle, and be guided through a chocolate tasting where you'll learn to appreciate the sensory characteristics of good chocolate: its snap, smell, texture and flavors.
You'll be taken to a modern chocolate store in the heart of the Eixample district, where they control the entire process of manufactoring of the products they sell: from the cacao harvest and roasting, to the chocolate making and the design of the final product. They love being creative and playing with unusual flavors, but also put in value the subtle differences between cocoas coming from different countries, as well as chocolates with different percentages of cocoa on them.
One of their managers will first offer an explanation of where cocoa comes from and how it's processed, you'll get to see cocoa beans and seeds and discover what a nib is. And after discussing the various ins and outs of the chocolate making process, you'll seat in a table in the store cafe and be led on a chocolate tasting of a variety of their products and learning about its sensory characteristics and how to properly taste chocolate (and it's not chewing it!). After the tour you'll be able to easily make the difference between so-so chocolate and awesome chocolate.
A fun and delicious experience that no chocolate love should miss!
Duration of this activity: 1 to 1.5 hours.
Activity available Mon-Sat (EXCEPT AUGUST), and it must be booked at least 15 days ahead of time, in order to confirm their availability.
PRIVATE VISIT OF A TOP CAKE ATELIER
THE CREATIVITY OF A GENIUS CAKE MAKER
Get behind the scenes of a famous local cake maker. Learn about a family of cake makers that have been in the business for three decades (soon four!), see their team working at their atelier and have private access to the offices where they plan their most extravagant creations: not just cakes, but also "cake performances".
Visit the main headquarters where a family of cake makers started their business almost 100 years ago. Their window displays are usually quite spectacular! You'll first have breakfast (one drink and one bakery: coffee, tea, soda or water + croissant, small cake or similar) before being met by the personal assistant of the owner, who'll lead you through their kitchens seeing their staff at work and eventually getting a few more bites of their chocolates and cakes.
After that, you'll be taken upstairs to their private showroom where you'll be shown a few amazing videos on their latest creations: flying cakes, exploding cakes, giant cakes, wall cakes... even the Cake of the Future! Discussing such unbelievable creations will make you realize that a cake can be much more than just a cake: as they say, a cake must make you happy and surprise you.
The owner of the cake shop is a busy gentleman and often is away traveling, but if he's around he'll probably show up to say hi at some point as he's very outgoing and loves meeting visitors.Duration of this activity: 2 hours.
Book well in advance: We recommend to book it at least 1 month ahead of time, as they are extremely busy and it can take days before we get an answer from them confirming we can be received.
