Are love wine and enjoy visiting cellars? Does lunch by the Mediterranean sound like a perfect plan? Do you have an extra day in Barcelona to go out of town?
Wineries and seaside are one of our favorite combinations. But it’s a day trip that would be so difficult to organize on your own: there’s no train connecting the wine country and Sitges! So unless you want to rent a car and drive (and do all the research to choose what winery to visit and what are their opening hours), a private tour is your best option.
We have designed this tour to spare you all the trouble so you can leave all the logistics in our hands and focus on enjoying yourself. We’ll take you to some great winery in the Penedès Country, and then continue to Sitges for a nice lunch and a stroll around the village.
Final itinerary and timings might vary due to many factors (traffic, your pace, your main interests, winery availability…)
Your private tour guide and your driver will pick you up at your location in Barcelona city and take you to the Penedes region, cradle of Cava, the local sparkling wine. Just about one hour away from Barcelona, the highway soon leaves behind the industrial suburbs of Barcelona to get surrounded by hills covered in vineyards.
We work with a variety of wineries and cellars to cater all tastes: small-family owned venues for those who enjoy discovering hidden gems, well known companies featuring a train ride around the miles of underground cellars (great for families with young kids!), award-winning cellars for wine-lovers…
Enjoy a ride across the vineyards to get to the second cellar in your tour.
The Penedès county is home to the best cava and wine cellars in the area. We’ll visit one of our favorite wineries, learn about cava and wine making, and of course enjoy some wine tasting.
Back to the car to get on a local road that crosses hills and pine tree forests to take you to Sitges, by the Mediterranean Coast.
Enjoy a seafood or paella lunch in the marina, where the best restaurants in Sitges are located.
After lunch, walk around the Old Town of Sitges with your tour guide, exploring its streets with white-washed houses, and learning about its local history. Or just enjoy a stroll along the beach while eating gelato.
The road from Sitges offers some sea views at first, to later cross some farmland before entering the city suburbs. Use this ride to discuss the day with your guide, ask questions or get recommendations for the rest of your stay. Or if you prefer, take a nap to help you digest all the food and wine!
You’ll be dropped back to your hotel or apartment, or any other location within the city limits of your choice.
Our Sitges Wine Tours are perfect for those who enjoy seaside villages as much as a glass of wine. They are a specially good choice in the Autumn and Winter, as Sitges has a microclimate with over 300 days of sunshine, and the temperature in the cellars is constantly fresh but not chilly (precisely for that, it’s also great to escape the Summer hit for a while). August through December are the busiest, and therefore, more exciting times at the winery: from the harvest and initial wine making, to the preparation for the big Christmas sales.
If you are traveling with kids, some wineries can offer them water or grape juice during the tasting. But unless your whole family is into wine and your kids have already an interest in it, the Montserrat and Sitges tour works best for families.
If you have walking issues or use a wheelchair, take there are stairs to get to the cellars in most wineries: let us know in advance so we can take you to a winery with no stairs. As for Sitges, the promenade by the marina is easy to walk, but the Old Town involves uphill streets and some stairs.
If you’d rather have a shorter day, consider visiting only the Wine Country.
