Top musts for any art gallery lover coming to town

The best art galleries in Barcelona are gathered around a few blocks on Consell de Cent street, but some other great ones are hidden in the alleys of the Old Town. Finding them can be a huge time investment unless you know exactly where you are going and what are you going to find there.

Some times we get to visit an art gallery during our tours. And often my guests would ask me where was the art gallery district and which were the best in town. Such questions inspired me to write today’s post. I hope you find it interesting!Art Galleries in Barcelona

This is the case of Setba, an unusual art gallery hidden in the flat in Plaça Reial where transgressor Barcelona artist Ocaña lived in the 1970’s (you can actually still see a fresco he painted in one of the ceilings of the now art gallery. Aside from Ocaña, they work with a variety of promising Spanish contemporary artists and they are also  very committed with the social and cultural life of the district.

The oldest gallery in Barcelona (and probably the oldest of all the art galleries in Spain, too), has been located since 1877 in Petritxol street, in the heart of the Old town. It was a reference in the Modernisme times, when a young Pablo Picasso exhibited his early works there, and later on, surrealists Joan Miro and Salvador Dali followed his example. 1. Nice list! I would also recommend Artur Ramon Gallery in the Gothic Quarter (Carrer de la Palla, 25), which displays ancient, modern and contemporary art. The gallery has been operating for 100 years, managed by 4 generations of the same family.
