Antica Pizzeria Da Michele (1870)

Barcelona, Spain: pizza time!

Don't be fooled by the name: I'm not introducing you to the oldest pizza place in Barcelona, and there's no pizzeria in town that has been open for that long. HOWEVER, in case you aren't familiar with them already, Da Michele is an institution in Naples (Italy) and that's where the Condarro family has run their business since 1870. Da Michele arrived to Barcelona in 2017 and they import all of their products from the South of Italy. 

You’ll find here traditional Neapolitan pizza, including specialties that are rarely found in Barcelona such as their pizza fritta (a fried Calzone). They also have traditional Italian starters (antipasti), three pasta dishes and a few other non-pizza dishes and salads.

Sartoria Panetieri

Their motto is "From farm to pizza", which talks about their love for natural and local ingredients. The chef and owner, Rafa Panatieri is an Italian raised in Brazil by his Italian nonna. He worked for some of the top Michelin restaurants in Barcelona before opening his own pizzeria with his partner Jorge Sastre, that he met in the best kitchens of the city. In 2023 they were awarded the prize to the best pizza in Europe outside of Italy, making it also Barcelona best pizza.

La Balmesina

Officially the second best pizza Barcelona has to offer, you’ll find here Italian gourmet pizza made with organic sourdough fermented for 72 hours. At lunchtime they have a menu for a set price that includes one pizza to choose from their list plus one drink and dessert. At night pizza is chosen a la carte, and they also serve a handful of starters to share.

Parking Pizza

Their first venue on C/Londres was a parking lot refurbished into a hispter pizzeria, and when it's closed, the shutter continues to look like there's only a parking lot behind. They serve really good pizza made with high end ingredients and baked in wood oven, as well as three pasta dishes, three salads and a handful of Italian starters.

Pizza Circus

Fun street food pizza with a young vibe and great pizza made with quality ingredients. They also have super-sized pizzas on request. If you have vegan friends, this is the Barcelona pizzeria that will make them happy: they have an entire menu of vegan pizza, besides their other “normal” menu for meat and fish eaters. Attention: there’s no tables, it’s just take away.

La Bella Napoli

Considered by many the best pizza in Barcelona for years, before the new generations of pizza makers arrived. There's two Bella Napoli in Barcelona, both owned by Italians. But the one that I think about when I hear the name is the Bella Napoli di Raffaelle, in the Poblesec district. It's got an authentic Italian feel, and rumors say that the original owner used to welcome there members of the mafia when they were in town.

Can Pizza

“Respect the Pizza” is their motto. And that starts with a long 72 hour fermentation of their doughs to achieve the perfect texture. They started in a suburb of Barcelona and now they have 3 branches in the city, plus several other in other Catalan towns, plus Madrid and Ibiza. Their latest invention was a “Pizzaiolo vs AI” combat, where ChatPG was asked to create a pizza recipe. In the end, though, the jury decided the AI pizza wasn’t as good as the one made by the human chef.

Pizza & Cocktails? We get you covered! Trafalgar Pizza Club is the place you need. A hipster garage decoration where you can eat modern Neapolitan pizza while you order one of the best cocktails in town. Plus their chef Andrea Lecca has won the award to the Best Pizzaiolo Outside of Italy . On Tuesdays they do 1 meter (3 feet) long pizzas, something you won't find anywhere else in Barcelona! NAP

Authentic Neapolitan pizza made with prime ingredients and respecting all the official rules about how a true Neapolitan pizza must be. Their pizza doughs are handmade and fermented for 24 hours, before being shaped (35cm / 13.7 inches with 1 to 2 cm / around 0.5 inches crust, following the “ruota di carro” technique), then cooked in the wood oven for exactly 60 seconds.

Madre Lievito

They are proud of their beautiful pizza dough made with sourdough and cooked during only 90 seconds on their stone fire oven. Their pizza menu is divided in classic pizzas (about a dozen of them), gourmet pizzas (10 creative choices), vegetarian (5 options) and 2 panuozzos. If you are craving good American pizza, you need to head here. Run by a true New-Yorker, they are proud to work the real NYC way, including the size of their pizzas (they are bigger than usual, and they had to stop doing delivery because they wouldn’t fit in the delivery boxes). Pan pizza in Barcelona! This is an unpretentious neighborhood bar specializing in pan pizza. Their menu includes a dozen of classic pizzas, with generous amounts of cheese and a thick but spongy crust. The rest of their menu is short, with a couple of salads, some nachos, garlic bread and baked provolone. Nothing fancy, but a simple option to enjoy pizza and beer with your friends.

Fabian Martin in Puigcerdà

Fabian Martin was a professional boxer until a carcrash forced him to stop competing. He discovered then this passion for pizza-making, what took him to win the price to best European pizza-maker (outside of Italy) in 2002 and 2003, then world’s best in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He runs a pizzeria in Puigcerda, a town in the ski valley of La Cerdanya in the Pyrenees, just 1.5 hours drive from Barcelona.
