Description

4-hour tour of Barcelona by minibus

Are you 7 to 14 people and wish to get a chauffeured overview of Barcelona? Walking and taking taxis is not an option for you? Don’t want to or can’t split in two minivans for your sightseeing either? (2 minivans take upto 13 of you + guide)

While our company specializes in small private groups, sometimes people travels with their extended families, or with several other couples, or a group of friends or coworkers… This is why we also offer minibus tours for those larger groups that wouldn’t fit in the vehicles we usually use for our chauffeured tours.

However, minibuses move slower than smaller vans, and the city council designates specific pick-up and drop-off spaces for minibus and large bus passengers – often a few blocks away from the sites. This is why a minibus tour doesn’t cover as much as our average chauffeured tours. We have designed a couple of minibus itineraries to give you a clear idea of what can be achieved in 4 hours and how much walk would be involved.

TOURS ITINERARIES:

15 minutes
Drive

Your bus tour will start with a drive along Via Laietana, the avenue that crosses the Old Town, connecting the Eixample district with the port. Half way down the street you’ll be passing the Cathedral of St. Eulàlia, that is seen from the bus as it is forbidden to stop even for a photo stop.

Listen to your guide explain the origins of the city, from the Roman times to the Middle Ages.

15 minutes
Drive

Next you’ll drive along the Port Vell marina, the Old Port, hearing about the relationship of Barcelona with the sea. At the end of the promenade, in the middle of a turnabout, stands up the statue of Christopher Columbus that marks the beginning of La Rambla. Again, all this is seen from the bus as it is forbidden to stop there.

1 hour
Drive

You will now start driving up the Hill of Montjuic, enjoying the views over the cruise piers and the city. There’ll be a 10 minutes photo stop at a vantage point to take pictures of the skyline (official bus pick-up and drop-off points are located 5 minutes walk from the vantage point), and another 20 minutes photo stop at the Olympic stadium to see the sites from the 1992 Olympics.

You’ll be finally driving down the other side of the hill past the 1929 World Fair area, seeing from the bus the spectacular building of the Palau Nacional (MNAC museum) and Plaça Espanya with its Venitian Towers and the former bullring Las Arenas, now a shopping mall.

30 minutes
Drive

Next you’ll drive across the Eixample District, learning about how the grid of Barcelona was laid down by the engineer Ildefons Cerdà and how the Modernism bloomed during the Industrial Revolution times. You’ll drive along the exclusive Passeig de Gràcia, home to high end fashion boutiques but also two great works by Antoni Gaudí: Casa Batlló and Casa Milà (also called la Pedrera), which you will see from the bus.

The last stop of your tour will be the highlight of the day: the Sagrada Familia Church by Antoni Gaudi. Started in 1882 and not finished yet, it’s the most visited monument in the whole of Spain and the second largest church in the world, after St. Peter in Rome. Your guide will explain everything about the project: what Gaudi managed to build during this life and what he planned, what has been done after he died in 1929, and how will be the church when it’s done.

The official pick-up and drop-off point for buses is located 3 blocks away from the church, what involves an almost 15 minute walk each way.

15 minutes
Drive

After getting back to the bus, you’ll be taken back to your hotel or apartment, or other location of your choice within the city limits. Your guide will continue explaining interesting facts about Barcelona and any other site of interest that you might be passing by, before wrapping up.

If you added some extra time to visit the Gothic Quarter and the Cathedral of St. Eulalia, take into account that there are only two official pick-up and drop-off points for buses in the area: one in Plaça Catalunya and one by the Port Vell marina, both located a 15 minutes walk each way.

We will program this stop whenever it’s most convenient depending on your location and the entrance slot we manage to secure to enter the Sagrada Familia.

DISCOVER THE WORKS OF ANTONI GAUDI

Today you’ll start your tour driving across the Eixample district and along the elegant Passeig de Gràcia boulevard, learning how the city started growing after the city walls were demolished.

You’ll drive past the Block of Discord you’ll be introduced to the most important architects of the early 1900’s in Barcelona. Here is located one of Antoni Gaudi’s masterpieces: Casa Batlló, that you’ll see from the bus (as it is forbidden to stop there).

5 minutes

You’ll also drive by Casa Milà, located only three blocks further, that you’ll also see from the bus while your guide explains why this building is also called La Pedrera, and points at its amazing rooftop with some very unusual chimneys. Again, buses are not allowed to stop there for photo stops, so you’ll be seeing it from the bus as you drive by.

The bus will drive you now North of the city to visit Park Güell, another Gaudí masterpiece: a failed project of a walled community has become now a whimsical park famous for its mosaics, wavy bench and Dragon fountain.

The official bus parking lot is located in a side entrance, on top of the monumental area. Your guide will take you around to see the park main features all the way down to the main entrance of the park with its fairy-tale looking pavilions. From there, you’ll be walking back up the hill to the parking lot using a different path.

The last stop of the tour will be the breathtaking Sagrada Familia church, where Gaudi worked for the last 43 years of his life. Still not finished, the inside was finally dedicated in 2010 and it doesn’t look like any other church you’ve seen before. It will definitely be the highlight of your whole trip!

The official pick-up and drop-off point for buses is located 3 blocks away from the church, what involves an almost 15 minute walk each way.

After getting back to the bus, you’ll be taken back to your hotel or apartment, or other location of your choice within the city limits. Your guide will continue explaining interesting facts about Barcelona and any other site of interest that you might be passing by, before wrapping up.

If you added some extra time to visit the inside of either Casa Batlló, the official drop-off point is Plaça Catalunya (although buses might occasionally make a quick stop in front of Casa Batllo).

If you added extra time to go inside La Pedrera (Casa Mila), there is a bus stop in front of it reserved for paying groups.

IS THIS TOUR RIGHT FOR YOU?

This tour is for parties of 7 to 14 people wishing to tour by minibus rather than walking, taking taxis or splitting in two minivans.

If you are 6 people or less, please check our other City Tours instead. The minibus tours described in this page are private tours and we can’t hook you up with other clients taking them.

If you are traveling with kids, both itineraries are kid-friendly.

If you have walking issues or use a wheelchair, please provide medical prove of your phisical issues so we can request a special permit that would allow the bus to stop right in front of the Sagrada Familia Church for drop-of and pick-up (otherwise we’ll be forced to stop 3 blocks away, as described above). Also if you are booking the Gaudi Tour itinerary, please note that there are short flights of stairs involved in the visit of Park Guell, plus the walk uphill to get back to the bus.

If you are on a cruise, these itineraries include pier pick-up and drop-off.

If you’d like to see more things without having to add extra hours, consider splitting in two minivans rather than using one single minibus. It is not only more time-efficient but you’ll also be dropped-off and picked-up right next to the sites instead of in the designated bus stops located further away.

If you are 15 people or more, we can still organize these two itineraries for you (but not other itineraries or extra hours if they include visiting the inside of sites other than Park Guell and Sagrada Familia). Different fees apply depending on the size of the vehicle you need.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Entrance fees are not included*.
  • Transportation provided in luxury minibus with dedicated professional driver, with room for up to 14 of you + guide + driver.

Given that there were 11 of us and I didn't book the tour until a couple weeks before, I wasn't sure how our day in Barcelona would be. We only had one day and 11 people!! Wow! I am happy to say that Sandra made our walking and bus tour of Barcelona an awesome experience for a family that ranged from 18-72. Even the teens loved it! While we only had one day in Barcelona to see the city, we feel like we saw all the sights we wanted to, and we loved it. Thanks to Marta for booking our tour so quickly and to Sandra for making the day one to remember forever!
