Need a restaurant in Montjuic?
Enjoy a meal with Barcelona at your feet: together with the Tibidabo Mountain, the Hill of Montjuic is one of the best high points in Barcelona to admire the city views. It’s an excellent viewpoint, especially at nightfall but you wouldn’t go there at night just because of the views. The good news is that many Montjuic restaurants offer great views as well, and that’s the perfect excuse to head there in the evenings (or stay after you are done with your sightseeing). Plus even the ones that don’t have views offer great food anyway. Discover here which places are our favorite!
This is our top Montjuic Restaurant list:
El Xalet. An amazing rotating dining area with crystal walls overlooking the city, so all the guests get to enjoy the city views for part of their meal (it completes a whole turn in what takes to eat a full meal, approximately). Or if you prefer to be outdoors, they also have a lovely terrace with views as well. They offer an excellent Mediterranean cuisine with personal touches and high quality products. You can get there with the Montjuic funicular, which stops right in front. It’s a great choice for couples looking for a romantic dinner, or for a formal business meal.
La Font de Prades. Inside Poble Espanyol you will find this cozy restaurant offering Catalan cuisine cooked with local products and an outstanding wine list. TIP: by booking a table in this restaurant in advance, you get free entrance to Poble Espanyol. I recommend their rices, the cod dishes and their grilled meats. They also have vegetarian and gluten free options.
Martínez. This is a good choice for a lunch or dinner outdoors with views over the post. They have a set menu that includes vermouth, lunch, drinks and dessert, and you can also eat “à la carte”. We love their patatas bravas and rice dishes. Remember that inside it’s smoking-free, but outside in the terrace people might be smoking, so make sure to ask for a table with no smokers nearby if that’d bother you.
Cañota. If you want some tapas, this is one of the best Montjuic restaurants for them. It offers a wide range of excellent tapas and home-made desserts. It’s well decorated, cozy and warm. Attention to details, nice food presentation, and sense of humor results in fun creations such as the bonbon roulette or the Dracula ice cream.
Òleum. This high end restaurant is located in the second floor of the Museum of National Art of Catalonia (MNAC), as is the perfect choice for a romantic dinner. Booking your table during the Magic Fountain show, you will have a privilege situation to enjoy both the meal and the show.
AND BONUS! The restaurant in Montjuic do locals choose to enjoy the sunset and an informal fun meal:
La Caseta del Migdia. This unusual venue is said to have the best sun set in the city, and just for that reason it is a great place to check out. However, they only open in Spring and Summer time, as it’s an outdoor terrace close to the Montjuic Castle. They offer lively life music at dinner time such as Rumba, Bossanova, Funky or Flamenco in a festive atmosphere. Ideal for families as well as it has enough space for kids to play around. Their food is simple: chicken, salad, fries…
