OUR TOP LIST OF HOTELS IN MONTJUIC HILL

Montjuïc hill is one of the best view points in the city. It’s a quiet area, relatively close to the city center and with a lot of leisure options. In Montjuïc there’s gardens, a castle, sport facilities, museums such as the Fundació Joan Miró, the Magic Fountain and Plaça Espanya. Choosing a Montjuic hotel is a good option if you don’t want to stay in the city center .

But don’t want to be too far either: a quiet place inside the city and near the nature. It’s also a great choice if you want to have easy access to local districts where to experience the real city live, or if you need to be close to the road taking you to the airport for an early flight.

These are our favorite hotels in Sants Montjuic:

Very close to Plaza Espanya there’s this nice hotel with a modern contemporary design. It features two nice restaurants where to have lunch or dinner, and it offers a hearty and diverse  breakfast. Special mention to the fitness area: Spa, massages and a wide variety of sport activities. It makes a great choice if you are attending one of the trade shows in Fira de Barcelona, as it’s located right behind the pavilions where they take place.

It’s also perfect if you are planning to watch the Magic Fountain show, as it’s only two blocks away (and being next to it will spare you the pain of finding a taxi to go back to the hotel after the show is over). You can also attend a theater play at the Mercat de les Flors or the Grec openair theater, visit the Museum of Archaeology and the MNAC museum, or eat at some of our favorite Montjuic restaurants: La Cañota, Espai Cru and Rías de Galicia. Book it here.

This hotel presiding Plaça Espanya stands out for its panoramic views from the top of the building. All the rooms are modern and luminous. The restaurant offers a blend of Mediterranean cuisine and Japanese cuisine. The best? The pool on the top terrace! You’ll be right beside Las Arenas Bullring, remodeled  by rockstar architect Richard Rogers to transform it into a very modern shopping mall frequented by locals.

At the top of the mall there is a terrace with plenty of family-friendly and casual restaurants and wonderful views over the city. BTW, don’t take the “panoramic elevator” to go up if you don’t want to be charged for the ride: the escalators inside the mall take you to the same place… for free! Book it here.

Located one block from Plaça Espanya, the hotel design is minimalist and avant-garde. It has a good reputation for its service and the kindness of its staff, and it’s a good option if you are looking for affordable but good hotels in Montjuic: if you book in advance there are usually great discounts available.

Recommended Sants Montjuic Hotels

You’ll be one block from the Caixaforum art center, one of the best in town, as well as the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion and the rest of the sites we’ve mentioned so far, and 10 minutes walk from Poble Espanyol, home to the famous Tablao de Carmen flamenco show.

A downside: while it’s perfect to get there by taxi from the airport, when you take taxis to go back to the hotel after exploring the city you’ll want to be dropped in Plaça Espanya and walk one block rather than have to pay for the longish detour needed to drop you at the door of the hotel. Book it here.

Located one block further away from Ayre (and not having the same issue with taxis), this is a 3 star hotel with nice quality services that make it also very desirable, specially when considering its affordable price. The rooms are wide, there’s a reading room and a gym.

The location allows you to explore the “real Barcelona” if you choose to walk around its backstreets taking you to the lively neighborhoods of Sants and Hostafrancs: don’t miss the market of Hostafrancs and the shopping and casual restaurants of Carrer de la Creu Coberta (we like eating at Bodega Monumental there). Book it here.

We’ve been so far focusing in the area around Plaça Espanya, but Montjuic Hill is more than that. The Poblesec district is located in the hillside along Paral·lel Avenue, and while it keeps its humble and local feeling, it’s becoming very popular for its delicious tapas bars (we love Quimet i Quimet and its handmade canapés). So why not staying there if you want to be off the beaten path and in contact with the local life?

In contrast, this hotel is the perfect representation of what the new Barcelona is: fashion, trends, design, innovation… and you can see it as soon as you cross the hotel main door. Aside from that, it’s comfortable, the service is nice and there’s a gym and a Spa to recover energies. You’ll be walking distance from the Raval district and La Rambla, and the L3 subway line takes you to Passeig de Gràcia in less than 10 minutes. Book it here.

AND BONUS! Here is the most spectacular 5 star hotel in the Montjuïc Mountain:

Hotel Miramar

If staying in a secluded place with amazing views is your preference over being close to everything for sightseeing and shopping, this is the way to go. A 5 star GL in a building from 1920 in a privileged location surrounded by gardens – perfect for honeymooners! It offers a lot of services like gym, spa, pool, restaurants… My recommendation is to eat some day at the Pool bar (Open from May to October).

Plus this Montjuic hotel is close to some of our favorite restaurants in the area. Cacti lovers shouldn’t miss the spectacular Costa i Llovera cacti garden, and you’ll be 5 minutes walk from the funicular connecting with the subway and the cable car taking you to the Montjuic Castle, and 10 minutes from the Miró museum. Book it here.
