Description

DALI MUSEUM TOUR:
The world of surrealism

Does Salvador Dali fascinate you and want to learn more about it? You’ve heard there’s very little information inside the museum (there are no audioguides, for instance) and fear going all the way there just not to get it? Want to skip the long lines that are usually formed in the high season? Or maybe don’t feel confident taking the train there?

The Dali Theater Museum is located about 1.5 hours drive from Barcelona in the artist’s hometown: Figueres. He totally transformed the ruins of the old local theater into a wonderful museum that is designed to surprise you every second. However, there’s lots of the artwork there that hide secrets hard to notice unless someone tells you, and other that just don’t seem to make sense… until someone reveals you how clever they are!
With our private tour, your guide will lead you into Salvador Dali’s always shocking and thought-provoking world. Your vision of his works will change for ever after this Barcelona Dali private tour!

Skip the lines with your guide and get to visit a museum designed by Dali himself in his hometown, that looks more like a fun fair than a serious museum: the best Dali Museum in Spain and one of the best in the world, featuring unique masterpieces as well as quirky pieces created in purpose to be displayed in this museum, where the artist actually lived during the last years of his life. Of course, the guide will be with you inside providing more explanations.

IS THIS TOUR RIGHT FOR YOU?

This tour is great for people interested in art, museum lovers and anyone curious to learn more about Gaudi.

If you are traveling with kids you need to know that the museum feels a bit like a fun-fair, so it’s relatively child friendly however there’s some sex-related content (that the guide can try to point to the adults only). Make sure to bring snacks for them, since this tour does not include a lunch stop and they might get hungry before getting back to Barcelona.
If you have walking issues, please take into account that the visit of the museum involves short flights of stairs: there are no elevators and it’s not adapted to wheelchairs.

If someone in your party isn’t too fond of Dali, be sure that this day trip won’t leave them indifferent either. They might even get a new respect for the artist, after all.

If you’d rather spend a whole day out of town, check out our other Dali Tours.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Tour length: 6 hours.
  • Entrance fees are not included.
  • There is no lunch stop in this tour.
  • There are toilets in the museum, and there’s usually some extra time after the tour for shopping, taking a coffee break or a quick bite before going back to the city.
  • Transportation provided in private Mercedes Viano minivan (upto 6 of you) or Mercedes E Class car (couples), depending vehicle availability, with a dedicated driver. Groups of 7 or more will need larger vehicles at an extra cost.
CAN WE TAKE THE TRAIN?

  • November through February. I’m afraid that during the low season the train schedules don’t allow us to take you there just for a half day and they force us to stay for lunch after visiting the museum. This fact, plus having to pay for the guide’s train ride besides yours, and the taxi from the fast-speed train station located in the outskirts and back, doesn’t make it cost-efficient.
  • High season. Since the Museum opens earlier, if you are ready to get up early and start your tour at 7.45AM, we’d be able to organize a 6-hour trip and be back to Barcelona by lunchtime. Final fee will depend on the train tickets (including the guide’s) and you’ll also have to pay for the taxis from your hotel to the Barcelona station, and from the Figueres train station to the Museum and back. NOTE THAT this option is only cost-efficient for couples, but not for larger parties.

We just spent a week in Barcelona and used Begoña as our guide. Today we went to see the Salvador Dali Museum with her in Figueres and it is a must. She is a pro at being a guide.

None of us are Dali fans but she made the art come alive with his history and what he was doing in each piece. Many had different paintings and topics within one painting. By looking at it from different distances, one could see different things. We gained a respect for his art.
